Dr Ramesh K. Ramanathan is a Board-certified medical oncologist, he is the medical director of clinical research for Ironwood Cancer & Research centers, Phoenix, AZ. He also holds an adjunct appointment as clinical professor of molecular medicine, Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), Phoenix, AZ.
Dr Ramanathan lived in Phoenix, AZ, prior joining the pharmaceutical Industry as Executive Director, Global Scientific Affairs, Merck Research Labs, Rahway, NJ, USA and Vice President, Zielbio, Charlottsville, VA ( October 2018 to July 2023). Dr Ramanathan served on the faculty of Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, AZ (2014-2018) and held appointments as Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Medical School with a joint appointment at TGen, Phoenix, AZ. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, he served as the medical director of the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Ctr- Clinical Trials Program, Scottsdale, AZ from 2007-2014 and at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute from 1996-2007.
Dr. Ramanathan is a recognized expert for GI cancers and new drug development for solid tumors. In the last 25 years, Dr. Ramanathan has been involved in the development of several new drugs (oxaliplatin, PARP, PI3K, hedgehog inhibitors, liposomal formulations etc), participated in numerous first in human agent studies and had a pivotal role in the development of oxaliplatin for colon cancer and nab-paclitaxel for pancreatic cancer. He has published more than 200 papers in peer reviewed journals, as well as numerous book chapters. Dr Ramanathan has served on national professional committees and been an invited speaker at national and international meetings. Dr Ramanathan serves as a reviewer for a number of journals, and an Editorial Board member for the journals of Clinical Cancer Research and Cancer Chemotherapy & Pharmacology.
